I've been making films since my mother bought me a Fisher Price PXL200 when I was a kid growing up in Seattle, Washington. By the time I was in high school, I upgraded the gear and was submitting to festivals, attending filmmaking symposiums, working as a PA on local feature films, and anything else I could find to learn and practice the many aspects of making movies.
After High School, I decided to attend Washington State University and the Edward R Murrow School of Broadcasting. I'm a firm believer and supporter of the increasing dominance digital filmmaking. I felt this was the best choice as opposed to a traditional "film" school because I wanted to learn the digital process and how to tell stories in a newer untraditional way.
After graduating and moving to Dallas, TX, I worked in restaurant management while building a name for myself as a freelance cinematographer and editor...and made the move to start a production company called Crooked Path Films. I wouldn't trade my years in management--not only because I learned how to run a business, but more importantly how to manage and work with people to make the business enjoyable for everyone.
Crooked Path Films, LLC works with agencies and also directly with clients to create industrial films and commercials. We pride ourselves on making "cinematic" productions instead of typical videography. Our clients enjoy that they receive a truly cinematic "film" instead of a video. Some of our clients include Texas Instruments, Harley Davidson, D Magazine, and Bob Evans Farms. I also occasionally work as a freelance cinematographer or editor with other production companies.
I also utilize the newer large-sensor cameras that provide that cinematic look. I wrote the "Idiot's Guide to 5dMkII Cinematography," and "Idiot's Guide to Sony FS100," both free online guides to help other users. I also conduct seminars on DSLR and large-sensor digital filmmaking, guest write on industry websites, and operate my blog that provides resources for other digital filmmakers.
In late 2011, I moved into our new studios and production offices in Richardson, TX.
